Growing up in Brookline, Massachusetts, Scott attended Brookline High School where he participated in hockey, lacrosse and cross-country.  The leading scorer on the hockey team, he was also one of the Top 100 Eastern Massachusetts players. 

He entered Lake Forest in 1978 and earned four letters in hockey and participated in club lacrosse for four years.  He was Rookie of the Year his freshman year and was All-America his senior year.  Most Valuable Player his sophomore and senior years, he finished his career with 68 goals and 82 assists, combining for 150 points.  He was also a standout on the lacrosse team. 

Following his career at Lake Forest, Scott became a restaurant owner.
