Ken Kelly grew up in Chicago and was an all-city, all-area, and
honorable mention all-state basketball player at Paul Robeson High
School . He enrolled at Lake Forest College in the fall of 1981 and
continued his exploits on the hardwood for the Foresters. He was
the squad's leading scorer each of his four seasons and became the
third player in the program's history to be named its Most Valuable
Player four times. Kelly was an Honorable Mention All-Midwest
Collegiate Athletic Conference selection as a freshman, a first
team choice as both a sophomore and senior, and a second team
honoree his junior year. After suffering through a 4-18 record his
first season, Kelly led the team to a 38-28 mark over the next
three. He set single-game school records for assists and steals and
his highest single-season totals in both categories are also listed
among the program's best. He was a team captain as a senior and
finished his career ranked fifth in school history with 1,376
points. In addition, he set a team record with 234 career assists
and his 211 steals are still 37 more than the next-highest total in
Forester men's basketball history. While at Lake Forest Kelly was
also a member of a group called Black United and Concerned
Students. He graduated from the College in 1985 with a degree in
business and economics and began a career in sales and marketing.
Unfortunately that successful career suddenly called him away to
France this week and he is unable to be with us today. Accepting
Ken Kelly's induction into the Lake Forest College Athletic Hall of
Fame is Jerald Davis, his close friend and teammate while at the
College.
