Brent Keeley grew up in Sherwood Park, Alberta, playing hockey and baseball and representing the province in national and international golf competition. He attended Salisbury Composite High School, where he was quarterback and captain of the football team and the school’s Athlete of the Year as a senior.

Keeley entered Lake Forest College in the fall of 1977 and helped lead the Forester hockey team to a runner-up finish at the NCAA Division II Tournament that winter. He finished third on the squad as a freshman with 44 points on 16 goals and 28 assists. Keeley was the team’s leading scorer the next two years, tallying 108 points on 57 goals and 51 assists during that span. His 32 goals and 62 points as a sophomore in 1978-79 ranked third in program history while his 30 assists that year were fifth. From that time until his induction, no Forester had surpassed any of Keeley’s totals from that season. In addition, he was responsible for the only two five-goal games in recorded team history, one in February of 1979 against Illinois State University and another a year later against Chicago Circle. Keeley scored 20 more times and added a dozen assists as a senior and finished tied-for-second in school history with 93 career goals and third with 91 assists and 184 points. Lake Forest won 65 of 100 games during his four seasons at the College.

Keeley was also involved in several intramural sports while a student at the College and graduated from Lake Forest in 1981 with a degree in economics. He went on to a career in property development. Keeley has a son, Matthew, and a daughter, Mackenzie, who is also a Lake Forest College graduate.
