Chelsea Bueter grew up in Swisher, Iowa, where she was the valedictorian at Prairie High School.
Bueter entered Lake Forest College in the fall of 2003 and was the most accomplished female swimmer in the Midwest Conference during her time at the College. As a freshman she finished first in all three of her individual events and swam on a pair of victorious relay teams at the conference championship meet. Bueter also qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships, where she was named All-American after placing eighth in the country in the 200-breaststroke and 11th in the 200-individual medley. She was voted the MWC Swimmer of the Year and the Foresters’ Most Valuable Performer that season and received each of the awards two more times during her career. Bueter went on to capture 11 of a possible 12 league titles in individual events during her four seasons, more than any individual before her in program history. She finished her career as the school record-holder in the 200-breaststroke (2:23.99) and 200-individual medley (2:10.01) and ranked second in the 100-butterfly (59.67) and 400-individual medley (4:38.42).
Extremely successful in the classroom as well, Bueter earned Academic All-MWC honors each of the three years she was eligible for the award. While on campus the biology major was also a Richter Scholar, a member of the Beta Beta Beta biology honor society, and a contributor to Eukaryon, an undergraduate research journal that publishes the very best of life science scholarship conducted by Lake Forest students.
Bueter went on to earn a PhD in biomedical sciences from the University of Massachusetts. She continued in the field of science and, at the time of her induction, was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Cincinnati.
