Douglas Bowman grew up in West Chester, Pennsylvania, and attended Henderson High School. He was a three-year team captain of the Henderson hockey team, helped lead the Warriors to the Pennsylvania state championship in 1982, and graduated as the all-time leading scorer in team history. He also attended and played hockey at Kimball Union Academy in New Hampshire during a post graduate year.

After attending Dartmouth College as a freshman, Bowman transferred to Lake Forest College in 1988. That winter he recorded 13 points in an injury shortened season, tying for the lead among the Forester defenseman despite playing in just 17 of 24 games. He was selected as a team captain for the 1989-90 season and, after scoring 34 points on a dozen goals and 22 assists, was named Second Team All-American and the squad’s Most Valuable Player. He also served as a captain his senior year and helped lead the Foresters to an 18-6-2 record and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Bowman finished his final season with 29 points and completed his Lake Forest career with 76 points on 27 goals and 49 assists in 65 games. The Foresters were 46-25-3 during his three seasons on the team.

Bowman graduated from Lake Forest College in 1991 with a bachelor’s degree in politics and added a master’s degree in business administration from The Pennsylvania State University in 1995. He was an assistant hockey coach at Penn State for two seasons and, at the time of his induction, was still active in the sport as both a player and coach.

After graduating from Lake Forest, Bowman served in various management consulting roles with a pair of global companies and went on to hold several executive level positions during a long career in the health care industry.
