Dr. Edwin Reichert
After receiving his Bachelor's degree from the University of
Wisconsin and his Master's and Ph.D. from the University of
Minnesota, Edwin had a twelve-year career as a high school teacher,
elementary and high school principal and school superintendent.
He came to Lake Forest College in 1946 and spent 28 years as the chairman of the education department. Under his leadership, Lake Forest became the first liberal arts college to offer an elementary education program. Along with directing night school programs, Edwin wrote 16 children's books. He published numerous articles, was a well-known education consultant, and was a member of the Illinois delegation to the 1960 White House Conference on Youth. He retired from Lake Forest College in 1974.
Edwin also had an avid interest in athletics at the College. For many years he was the field announcer for Forester football games. He chaired the faculty athletic committee and was faculty representative to the College Conference of Illinois. Edwin was among the varisty teams' most loyal supporters.
