Forester Athletes of the Week: May 2

Seniors Oleksyi Vyshyvanyuk of men's tennis and softball's Elena Chrisman were named Forester Athletes of the Week on Tuesday.

At the Midwest Conference Individual Tournament on Sunday, Vyshyvanyuk defended his title as #1 singles champion. A senior ranked 23rd in the Central Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, Vyshyvanyuk faced the top player from Grinnell College, who is ranked 18th by the ITA, in the final. After dropping the first set 6-4, he took the second set 6-1 and the third 6-2 to become the first Forester since 1999 to capture multiple conference titles at #1 singles.

Chrisman hit .571 and drove in 11 runs in four games last week. Her two-run triple gave the Foresters a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the six inning of Wednesday's opener against North Central, a 5-3 victory. She was also 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI in a 7-3 triumph in game two. Chrisman celebrated her Senior Day with four more hits, including a grand slam and a triple, in Saturday's sweep of Beloit. She finished the week with an OPS of 1.886.

Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by a vote of athletic department staff on Tuesdays. Vyshyvanyuk has been honored seven times during the course of his career at Lake Forest, most recently on March 28 of this year. This is Chrisman's first time earning the distinction.
