Jack Gillard of men's lacrosse and Rebecca Daskal of women's tennis were named Forester Athletes of the Week on Tuesday.
Gillard led the Forester defensive unit this past week to two wins over opponents Illinois Institute of Technology and last year's NACC tournament champion Benedictine University. The freshman defenseman was tasked with guarding both team's leading scorers and held them to just one goal each. When the team played Benedictine last season, the Eagles scored 19 goals; this year the Forester defense held them to just three.
Daskal was the only win on Saturday night for Forester women's tennis. The team played a very strong University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire team in their fall opener. Playing in the number three position, she played an amazing match against a player ranked much higher than her. The match went back and forth with Daskal taking the first set 6-3. Her opponent then took the second set 6-2. In the deciding tie breaker, Daskal took an early lead and closed out the set and match 10-6.
Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by a vote of athletic department staff on Tuesdays. This is the first time either player has earned the distinction.
