Forester Athletes of the Week: Jan. 3

Junior guard Maurissa Edwards of women's basketball and senior wing Johnny Roeser of men's basketball were named Forester Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.

Edwards scored 15 points, dished out two assists, and collected four steals in Lake Forest's 68-59 loss to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville on Friday. A dozen of her points came in the third quarter and the Foresters closed out that period with a 23-10 run to trim a 16-point deficit down to three. The home team led briefly in the fourth before Platteville pulled away for the victory.

Roeser registered his third consecutive double-double on Friday, finishing with a game-high 22 points and 11 rebounds in his team's 80-74 triumph over Carroll University. He shot 9-for-12 from the field, connected on both of his attempts from three-point range, and added four blocked shots in the contest. Three of his blocks occurred in the final 30 seconds as the Foresters hung on for the win.

Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by a vote of athletic department staff on Tuesdays. Roeser is a back-to-back recipient and also earned the award once last season. Edwards was an honoree in 2021-22 as well.
