Field Hockey Player Kitty Anthony '76 Named Forester Athlete of the Week

Kitty Anthony '76 was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday for scoring 10 times in a pair of victories by the College's 1974 field hockey team.

After suffering their only loss of the season three days earlier, the Foresters posted a 6-0 shutout at Northwestern University on Tuesday, October 29. Anthony, the team's leading scorer on the season, accounted for four of the scores in the triumph.

Lake Forest finished the year with a 7-1 record after routing visiting Beloit College 10-4 on Saturday, November 2. Anthony added six more goals to her season total, giving her 26 in just eight games. The 1974 Foresters outscored their opponents 59-9.

Anthony, who was voted the team's Most Valuable Offensive Player in 1974 and again after scoring 30 times as a senior in 1975, earned a dozen varsity letters at the College. In addition to her exploits in field hockey, she also led the women's basketball team in scoring and rebounding and played at #1 singles in tennis. She was inducted into the Forester Athletic Hall of Fame in 1986.

Since all Lake Forest College sporting events during the fall semester have been postponed, the Athletic Department is utilizing its archives to continue the weekly recognition of high-level performances by Foresters. The department has selected a Forester Athlete of the Week since 1996, so the honorees for the rest of 2020 will have earned the distinction at least 25 years ago.

A note of gratitude goes out to Mike Dau '58, whose tireless efforts as the department's historian has made this fall's Forester Athlete of the Week research possible.
