This Week in the Forest: September 2-8

At least one Forester team will be in action every day this week.

Women's soccer will kick off the week at Concordia University Chicago on Monday. The Foresters are coming off a 1-0 triumph over visiting Carroll University in Saturday's season opener while Concordia Chicago is 0-1-1 despite scoring four times over the weekend. Lake Forest is 8-0-0 all-time against the Cougars, a streak that includes a 1-0 victory last year.

The volleyball team split four matches during the season-opening Forester Invitational on Friday and Saturday and will host Illinois Institute of Technology Tuesday night. Lake Forest came out on top in four sets against Illinois Tech on Friday but is just 3-6 all-time against the Scarlet Hawks, who dropped all three of their matches over the weekend.

Women's golf finished seventh out of 13 teams with the second-best 36-hole score in program history at the Carthage College Shootout on the Border on Friday and Saturday. The team will host Benedictine University in a dual match at Lake Bluff Golf Club on Wednesday. The Foresters and Eagles have faced off in this format four times in the last two seasons with Lake Forest coming out on top in each contest.

The women's soccer team will be back in action on Wednesday, taking on Wisconsin Lutheran College on Farwell Field. Lake Forest extended its winning streak against Wisconsin Lutheran to eight games with a 4-2 victory last season. The Warriors began 2019 with a pair of losses over the weekend.

The only fall sports at the College that was not in action last weekend was football, which will start the year with a night game at Wisconsin Lutheran on Thursday. The Foresters and Warriors will face off in a season-opener for the fourth time in six years with Lake Forest taking two of the previous three meetings, including a 38-30 triumph in 2018.

Led by three freshmen, the Forester men's golf team tied for 10th place out of 23 schools at the Culver's Edgewood College Classic last weekend. The team will compete in another two-day event, Carthage's Tip Kopka Memorial Tournament in West Dundee, Illinois, this Friday and Saturday. It will be the sixth consecutive appearance at the event for the Foresters, whose were tied-for-ninth out of 21 teams a year ago.

After posting a runner-up finish out of a dozen teams on the women's side and placing 10th in the men's standings at last Friday's Elmhurst Earlybird Invitational, the Lake Forest cross country teams will travel just north of the state line to compete in the UW-Parkside Vic Godfrey Open this Friday. It will be the Foresters' first appearance at the meet.

The Forester volleyball team will compete outside the Sports and Recreation Center for the first time on Friday. Lake Forest will play at Alverno College on day one of the Milwaukee Invitational. The event will continue for the Foresters on Saturday at Milwaukee School of Engineering, where they will take on the home team and Wheaton College. Lake Forest is 6-0 all-time against Alverno, 4-4 against MSOE, and 7-21 against Wheaton.

In addition to volleyball and men's golf, three other teams from the College will be in action on Saturday. Women's tennis, which started the year with an 8-1 victory over Illinois Tech and a 6-3 win over Edgewood College last Saturday, will begin Midwest Conference play on the road this weekend. The Foresters will travel to Monmouth College and Illinois College on Saturday and Knox College on Sunday. Lake Forest posted 9-0 victories over all three opponents a year ago and is 45-2 all-time against the three teams combined. It will be the season opener for Monmouth while Illinois College is 0-1 and Knox 0-2 so far this year.

After two days off, women's soccer will be back out on the field both days this weekend. After playing at 2-0-0 Illinois Tech on Saturday, the team will travel to 0-1-0 Edgewood on Sunday. The Foresters dropped their first match-up with Illinois Tech 3-0 a year ago while last season's 4-1 victory over Edgewood gave Lake Forest a 4-3 edge in that all-time series.

The Forester men's soccer team will also play twice this weekend. After playing to a 2-2 tie with visiting Ohio Northern University last Friday, Lake Forest will host Illinois Wesleyan University this Saturday before traveling to Concordia Chicago on Sunday. The Foresters have never played Illinois Wesleyan, which is 1-1-0 so far this year, and are 9-0-0 all-time against the Cougars, who start the season on Wednesday.
