The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its 2019 All-Academic Teams and Scholar-Athletes on Thursday. Lake Forest College sophomore Julie Lord and freshmen Tebatso Duba and Matthew Pawlowski were named All-America Scholar-Athletes while the Forester women were recognized as an ITA All-Academic Team.
This year saw an increase in qualifying teams and scholar-athletes with ITA All-Academic honors awarded to 940 teams and thousands of individuals.
All-Academic teams boast a team GPA of 3.20 or higher. ITA scholar-athletes must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
Lord has been the Foresters' top player for each of her two years on campus, competing at #1 singles and #1 doubles, and captured Midwest Conference titles at both positions in 2018-19. Duba enrolled at the College in January and joined Lord in leading Lake Forest to the first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history.
Pawlowski went 11-12 at #4, #5, and #6 singles combined as a freshman on the men's team this spring. He and Lord were named Academic All-MWC last week.
The Lake Forest women have now earned ITA All-Academic Team status each of the last three years.
