This Week in the Forest: April 8-14

This Week in the Forest: April 8-14

With six teams in action and contests on six of seven days, it will be a busy week in Forester Athletics.

As this is being written Monday morning, the Forester women's golf team is already out on the course at Randall Oaks Golf Club in West Dundee, Illinois. The team's first competition since Spring Break is the Judson University Invitational, an event Lake Forest won with the best 18-hole score in program history a year ago.

Women's tennis will also play on Monday after being unable to take on Carthage College on Sunday due to rain. Lake Forest is looking for a second straight victory over the 9-6 Lady Reds after last season's 7-2 triumph. A 7-2 victory for the Foresters over North Central College on March 29 improved their record to 15-3 while Carthage comes in 9-6 after falling to Concordia University Wisconsin on Sunday.

After having their first two Midwest Conference doubleheaders of the year postponed due to weather, the Forester softball team finally began league play with a split at Grinnell College and a seep of Cornell College in Iowa last weekend. Lake Forest is now 10-10 overall on the season and will travel to Ripon College for another pair of conference games on Wednesday. The Red Hawks are 6-16 overall and 1-5 in the MWC after dropping four games on the road over the weekend. The Foresters will be looking to extend their nine-game winning streak against Ripon.

UPDATE: Wednesday's softball doubleheader has been postponed. A make-up date has yet to be determined.

Women's tennis will be back in action Thursday night at Wheaton College, the team's fourth consecutive opponent from the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. Wheaton is 11-4 this year and swept the Foresters when they last met two seasons ago.

UPDATE: Thursday's women's tennis match at Wheaton has been moved indoors to Centre Athletic Club (1919 Walnut Avenue in Hanover Park, Ill.).

Three program records fell on Saturday when the Forester track team competed at the Wheaton Invitational. A few members of the squad will travel to the southwest corner of Wisconsin to run the 5K at this Friday's UW-Platteville Invitational while the rest will race in Saturday's Pioneer Invite at Carroll University.

UPDATE: Friday's 5000m run at the UW-Platteville Invitational has been moved to Saturday with the rest of the events.

The Lake Forest men's tennis team has won four of five conference matches over the last two weeks and is now 9-8 overall this season. The Forester will continue league play on the road on Saturday when they take on St. Norbert College (5-10, 2-3 MWC) in the morning and Ripon College (2-7, 1-4 MWC) in the afternoon. The team will then close out its conference schedule against Lawrence University (8-8, 3-2 MWC) on Sunday. Lake Forest has defeated all three opponents each of the last five seasons.

UPDATE: Sunday's men's tennis match against Lawrence has been moved indoors to LifeSport Athletic Club in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and will begin at noon.

The Forester men's golf team returned to action at last weekend's Illinois Wesleyan University Invitational, where it placed 15th and matched the sixth-best 36-hole score (614) in program history. The team will compete in the Wisconsin Lutheran College Spring Invitational on Saturday before hosting the Forester Invitational at White Deer Run Golf Club in nearby Vernon Hills on Sunday. Lake Forest placed sixth out of 13 teams at Wisconsin Lutheran and fourth of 12 at home a year ago.

Weather permitting, the long-awaited home opening doubleheader for the softball team will finally take place on Saturday when the Foresters host Illinois College. The Lady Blues are also at .500 (8-8) overall and 3-1 in conference play. The Foresters will also take on league-leading Monmouth College (10-14, 7-1 MWC) on Sunday. Lake Forest split a pair of 2-1 extra-inning games at Illinois College and swept a doubleheader at Monmouth last year.

UPDATE: Saturday's doubleheader has been moved up two hours to 11:00 a.m. while Sunday's has been postponed and will be made up on April 28.
