This Week in the Forest: March 25-31

Men's golf will compete in its first stroke play event of the spring, softball will play its Midwest Conference and home openers, track will run outdoors for the first time in 2019, men's tennis will open league play, and women's tennis will take on North Central College for the first time in five-and-a-half years.

The Foresters' final week of March will begin on Thursday with the softball team traveling to Ilinois Wesleyan University, the fourth-ranked team in the nation in last week's National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III poll. Lake Forest split its 10 games in Florida over Spring Break and is 7-7 on the season while the Titans enter the week 8-3. The Foresters split a doubleheader with Illinois Wesleyan last season, taking the opener 10-4 before falling 6-5 in game two.

The Forester men's golf team returns to action on Friday and Saturday at Knox College's Jim Wetherbee Memorial Invitational. It will be the team's tournament of 2019, which began with an exhibition match play event against Wisconsin Lutheran College in North Carolina over Spring Break. This weekend's contest will be held at Soangetaha Country Club in Galesburg, Illinois, where Lake Forest placed third out of 18 teams a year ago.

The women's tennis is coming off its closest match of the year on Sunday, a 5-4 loss to visiting Augustana College that dropped the team's record to 14-3. Lake Forest will host North Central College (12-5) Friday evening at the Racquet Club of Lake Bluff. The Foresters have not faced off against the Cardinals since defeating them 7-2 in September of 2013.

After dropping an exhibition match at Prairie State College 8-1 last Saturday, the Lake Forest men's tennis team will begin conference play at home against Cornell College and Knox College on Saturday and Grinnell College on Sunday. The Foresters are 5-7 on the year after finishing their Spring Break trip with victories in three of their last four contests. Cornell enters the week 8-5, Knox 1-8, and Grinnell 13-3. Lake Forest came out op top against both of this Saturday's opponents but fell to the Pioneers last season. All three contests will be played indoors at the Racquet Club of Lake Bluff.

The Forester track team is scheduled to compete outdoors for the first time this spring at Augustana's Viking Olympics on Saturday. Lake Forest competed last as a full team February 22-23 at the MWC Indoor Championships and selected individuals participated in last chance indoor meets the following weekend. Early weather predictions for the day call for high temperatures in low 40s and a chance for rain.

Precipitation and cold temperatures may also factor in to the softball team's plans for the weekend. The Foresters are scheduled to begin league play at Lawrence University on Saturday before playing their home opener against St. Norbert College, another league rival, on Sunday. Lawrence is off to a 2-10 start to the season while St. Norbert's overall record to start the week is a league-best 6-4. Lake Forest posted doubleheader sweeps against the Vikings and Green Knights in 2018.
