Six Forester teams will be in action this week, including five at home.
Both basketball teams were 2-0 last week and will host Lawrence University on Tuesday. The Forester women rallied for a 75-66 victory at Beloit College last Wednesday and routed visiting Knox College 83-57 on Saturday to improve to 6-7 overall and 5-1 in Midwest Conference play. Lawrence enters the week 4-9 overall and 1-6 in the league after falling to Monmouth College at home on Saturday. Lake Forest swept the 2017-18 season series, prevailing 70-67 at home and 69-52 on the road. The Foresters will then travel to Iowa on Saturday to take on Cornell College for the second time this year, having already edged out the Rams 62-61 at home in the first meeting on December 1.
The Forester men's basketball team rolled to a 100-82 win at Beloit and 77-58 triumph over Knox last week and is now 8-5 overall and 4-2 in the MWC. Lawrence defeated Monmouth 60-56 on Saturday to improve to 8-6 overall and 5-2 in the conference. Lake Forest took both meetings a year ago, outscoring the Vikings 73-63 at home and 82-51 in Appleton, Wisconsin. Like the Forester women, the men will also be seeking a season sweep of Cornell on Saturday after posting a 90-88 triumph over the Rams on the first day of December.
The College's men's hockey team returned home with a three points after skating to a 1-1 tie at St. Norbert College, the sixth-ranked team in the nation, and defeating Finlandia University 3-2 in overtime on the road last weekend. The Foresters climbed into a tie for second place in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association South Division standings, just one point behind Adrian College (10-4-1, 5-2-1 NCHA), who they will host on Friday. The Bulldogs, who are ranked seventh in the country, defeated Lake Forest in all three of their meetings last season, including a 2-1 decision in Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse. The Foresters will continue league play against Trine University (6-8-1, 2-6-0 NCHA) Saturday night, looking for their third victory in as many all-time meetings with the second-year program.
After a weekend off from competition, the Lake Forest women's hockey team will also host a pair of NCHA contests. The Foresters took a trip to Maine at the end of 2018, where they tied Colby College 1-1 and won 3-2 at Bowdoin College. The team is now 7-3-3 and will host non-conference games against the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Friday night and Saturday afternoon. The Blugolds swept Lake Forest at home last season and enter this week 8-3-2 and ranked 10th in the nation.
In addition to Tuesday's basketball games and hockey games on Friday and Saturday, Lake Forest will also host a Men's Invitational Singles handball event on Saturday. Several alumni and other players from the area have been invited to participate in the informal competition.
After competing in a non-scored meet at Soka University of America in California on Sunday, the Forester swimming and diving teams will travel to nearby Wheaton College for the Illinois-Michigan Quadrangular this Saturday. Both Forester teams were fourth a year ago at the annual event, which also includes Hope College and Kalamazoo College and began in the late 1990s.
