This Week in the Forest: Dec. 3-9

This Week in the Forest: Dec. 3-9

There are just six contests scheduled for this week as the end of the fall semester approaches.

After beginning Midwest Conference play with a 62-57 victory over Grinnell College on Friday and a 62-61 triumph over Cornell College on Saturday, the Forester women's basketball team will host another league game against St. Norbert College on Wednesday. Lake Forest is 3-4 overall and will take on a 1-4 Green Knights team that dropped conference contests to visiting Monmouth College and Knox College over the weekend. The teams split the 2017-18 season series with the Foresters prevailing 59-57 in De Pere, Wisconsin, and St. Norbert posting a 68-58 win here in Lake Forest.

The Lake Forest men's basketball team will also host St. Norbert on Wednesday. The Foresters dropped a 108-100 decision to Grinnell Friday night but rebounded with a 90-88 last-second victory over Cornell on Saturday and is now 4-1 overall on the season. St. Norbert is 3-2 overall and tied with Lake Forest and two other teams atop the league standings after defeating Monmouth and Knox over the weekend. The Green Knights swept two games against the Foresters a year ago while Lake Forest's last victory over St. Norbert came in the semifinals 2017 MWC Tournament.

The Forester hockey teams will play non-conference games against Aurora University on Friday. Lake Forest will host the Spartans on the women's side and, since the teams played to a pair of ties less than a month ago, the game will decide the season series. The Foresters are 5-3-2 overall and 5-1-2 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association after falling 3-2 and winning 2-0 at Trine University last weekend. Aurora (3-6-3, 1-4-3 NCHA) is coming off 6-0 and 5-0 losses at Adrian College.

The Lake Forest men surrendered eight goals last weekend but still came up with a couple of victories, outscoring Milwaukee School of Engineering 6-4 at home Friday night before winning 5-4 at Concordia University Wisconsin on Saturday. The Foresters are now 4-3-3 overall and 3-2-1 in the NCHA while Aurora sports a 7-3-0 overall record and 5-1-0 mark in the league. The Spartans took on the same opponents last weekend and blanked Concordia Wisconsin 5-0 at home before doubling up MSOE 4-2 on the road. Lake Forest posted a pair of victories and a tie against Aurora a year ago.

Before heading home for the holidays the men's basketball team will make over the western border of the state to take on Loras University in non-conference play. The Duhawks edged out the Foresters 84-81 in the 2017-18 season opener and enter the week at 4-1 so far this year.

The final contest of the week belongs to the men's hockey team, which will host the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Saturday night. The Pointers are 10-0-2 and the top-ranked team in the country after defeated the University of River Falls 3-1 and the University of Wisconsin-Superior 4-0 last weekend. Lake Forest and Stevens Point have not faced off since January of 2016.
