This Week in the Forest: Nov. 26-Dec. 2

It will be a busy weekend for each of the College's six winter sports currently in action.

The Forester women's basketball team will start the week Tuesday night against visiting Benedictine University. Lake Forest rolled to an 87-36 victory at Illinois Institute of Technology last Monday and is now 1-3 on the season. The Eagles, who are 4-1 after routing Illinois Tech on Saturday, took last year's meeting 77-75 in overtime, evening the all-time series at 11-11. The Foresters will also open Midwest Conference play with home games against Grinnell College (2-3) on Friday and Cornell College (0-3) on Saturday. The team playing at home won all four regular season meetings between the teams a year ago Lake Forest will be looking avenge a loss to Cornell in the 2018 MWC Tournament Final. The Foresters are 46-17 all-time against the Pioneers and Rams combined.

After a weekend off from competition, the swimming and diving team will close out the fall semester just north of the state line at the Carthage College Classic. The competition will begin Thursday evening and continue with prelims and finals on Friday and Saturday. The Lake Forest men are coming off a first-place finish while the women were fourth at the seven-team Gene Davis Invitational on November 17. Both teams were fourth out of 10 schools at Carthage's meet a year ago.

Friday is also the first of three days of play for the Forester handball team at the Milwaukee Classic. Six members of the team participated in the IHA Joe Ardito Contenders Tournament two weeks ago and the rest will make their season debut in West Allis, Wisconsin, this weekend. The highly-competitive tournament will continue throughout the weeend.

The Forester men's hockey team is 2-3-3 on the season after defeating Saint Mary's University 2-1 on Friday and playing to a 4-4 tie on Saturday. The team is also 1-2-1 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association and will resume league play against visiting Milwaukee School of Engineering (2-3-1, 2-1-1 NCHA) Friday night and at Concordia University Wisconsin (2-5-1, 0-3-1 NCHA) 24 hours later. Lake Forest earned a win and a tie against MSOE last season and split four games against Concordia Wisconsin, falling twice during the regular season before sweeping a NCHA Harris Cup quarterfinal series. The Foresters are 21-28-4 all-time against the Raiders and 19-8-3 against the Falcons. Forester fans attending Friday night's game are encouraged to wear white.

The women's hockey team returns to action this weekend. The squad is coming off 2-1 and 6-1 victories at Finlandia University November 16-17 and is now 4-2-2 overall and 4-0-2 in the NCHA so far this season. Lake Forest will play at Trine University (4-3-1, 3-2-1 NCHA) Friday night and Saturday afternoon. The Foresters won both of last year's meetings in the Thunder's first year of NCAA competition.

The Lake Forest men's basketball team improved to 3-0 by defeating visiting University of Chicago 75-61 on Saturday. The Foresters will begin their MWC schedule at home this weekend against Grinnell College on Friday and Cornell College on Saturday. Lake Forest defeated both opponents at home on this weekend a year ago and split a pair of games in Iowa, falling at Grinnell in January and prevailing at Cornell four weeks later. The Foresters are 32-34 all-time against the Pioneers and 15-18 versus the Rams.
