This Week in the Forest: Oct. 29-Nov. 4

This Week in the Forest: Oct. 29-Nov. 4

A conference tournament, a home finale, and three home openers are coming up for Forester teams this weekend.

The Lake Forest men's soccer team will be looking to keep the 2018 season alive at St. Norbert College this weekend and will take on the MWC Tournament hosts in the semifinals on Friday, with the winner advancing to Saturday's final. The Foresters are coming off a 3-1 victory over Beloit College and a 7-1 rout of Lawrence University last week. They are now 10-6-1 overall and finished fourth in the MWC standings with a mark of 6-3-0 in conference play. At 16-0-1 on the year, St. Norbert is one of just five unbeaten teams in the country and ranked 10th in the nation. The Green Knights edged out Lake Forest 2-1 in double-overtime when they met earlier in the season and completed their league schedule with a perfect 9-0-0 record. Knox College (14-4-1, 8-1-0 MWC) will face Cornell College (14-2-2, 6-2-1 MWC) in the other semifinal.

The Forester men's hockey team will also be in action on Friday, playing its 2018-19 home and Northern Collegiate Hockey Association opener against Northland College. Lake Forest began the year with a 3-3 tie at University of Wisconsin-Superior and a 3-1 loss at University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire last weekend while Northland is playing its opener Tuesday night against Eau Claire. The Foresters were defeated 5-2 on the road in their only meeting with the LumberJacks a year ago. Saturday's opponent will be College of St. Scholastica, who Lake Forest blanked 1-0 in 2017-18. The Saints will play their season opener Friday night at Aurora University.

The football team has been on the road four of the last five weeks and closed out that stretch with a 30-3 loss at Monmouth College last Saturday. Lake Forest is now 5-3 overall and 3-1 in MWC South Division play, a game ahead of this week's opponent, Illinois College, in the standings. The Blueboys are 3-5 overall and will be looking to avenge their 28-21 loss to the Foresters at home last year. The Lake Forest seniors will be honored before their final career home game.

During the football team's final contest of the year on Farwell Field, the 2018-19 swimming and diving teams will be competing at home first the first time in the Sports and Recreation Center. Lake Forest will host Carroll University looking to sweep the Pioneers in a dual meet format for the second year in a row. Both Forester teams, and both Carroll squads, are 0-1 on the year after falling at Carthage College and University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, respectively, last Saturday.

The Forester women's hockey team will be the last to play this weekend, hosting NCHA foe Concordia University Wisconsin Saturday night and Sunday evening. Lake Forest dropped a pair of games at the University of St. Thomas, the 10th-ranked team in the country, last weekend while the Falcons defeated Bethel University and College of St. Benedict. The teams split last year's weekend series in Mequon, Wisconsin.
