The Forester soccer teams open Midwest Conference play this week.
Lake Forest hosts Beloit College in women's soccer on Wednesday. The Foresters are 4-4-0 this season after defeating Edgewood College 4-1 on Saturday while the Buccaneers begin the week 1-4-0 after falling to Illinois Institute of Techonology at home on Saturday. Lake Forest is 35-6-1 all-time against Beloit with victories in each of the last 12 meetings. The Foresters will also welcome Ripon College (1-3-1) on Sunday looking to improve on a 38-4-0 all-time record and seven-game winning streak against the Red Hawks.
The Forester men's soccer team won the Warrior Cup at Wisconsin Lutheran College over the weekend, playing to a 1-1 tie with Olivet College before routing the hosts 4-1. Lake Forest is now 4-2-1 this year and will travel to Wheaton College (3-1-1) Wenesday night ahead of Sunday's MWC opener against Ripon (2-4-0). The Foresters fell to Wheaton a year ago but defeated Ripon for the seventh straight time, improving to 40-13-0 all-time against the Red Hawks.
Three more Lake Forest teams will be in action on Friday, beginning with women's tennis at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Tournament in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The Foresters are 7-0 overall and 5-0 in league play this season after defeating Cornell College 8-1 and Grinnell College 6-3 at home on Saturday. The team will have six singles players and three doubles teams in the field at Kalamazoo.
The Lake Forest cross country teams will compete in Augustana College's Brissman-Lundeen Invitational on Friday. The men and women are coming off third-place finishes at last Saturday's Forester Invitational and will be looking for more success at a much larger meet this week. The Forester men were 10th and the women 11th out of 17 teams at Augustana last year.
The volleyball team will play three matches away from home this weekend, starting with Friday night's contest at Illinois Institute of Technology. Lake Forest fell in three sets to Dominican University on Saturday and is now 4-8 on the season. Illinois Tech enters the week 1-7 but has taken the last two meetings with the Foresters, including a four-set decision last year. Lake Forest will also travel to Concordia University Chicago (5-8) on Saturday for a rematch with Alverno College (2-12) and a match-up with the hosts. Lake Forest is undefeated in 12 combined meetings with Saturday's two opponents.
The Forester women's golf team is coming off a first-place finish at the Marian Invite on Saturday. Members of the team claimed four of the top eight places in the 38-player field and posted the fourth-best score in program history. Lake Forest will compete in the UW-Whitewater Fall Classic at The Oaks Golf Course in Cottage Grove, Wisonsin, on Saturday and Sunday having placed fifth out of 16 teams at the same event a year ago.
The men's golf team was also performing at a high level last weekend, finishing fifth out of 32 teams at the Midwest Region Classic. The Foresters will travel to Washington County Golf Course in Hartford, Wisconsin, this Saturday and Sunday for the Wisconsin Lutheran Fall Invitational. Lake Forest finished third out of 16 teams at the 2017 version of this event.
After a weekend off the Forester football team will play its third non-conference home game of the year on Saturday against Lawrence University. Both teams are 1-1 and looking to rebound from a loss two weeks ago. Lake Forest outscored the Vikings 32-26 on the road a year ago for a ninth consecutive victory in the all-time series, which Lawrence still leads 27-24.
