Forester Football To Honor Local Heroes At Season Opener

Forester Football To Honor Local Heroes At Season Opener

The Lake Forest College football team will host its ninth annual Heroes Day on Saturday, September 1, at Farwell Field.

As a new addition to this year's day of celebrating service, "America's Band" from the Great Lakes Navy Band will perform a patriotic opener to welcome the Foresters to the field. As the Foresters take the field, fans will notice several athletes carrying flags that represent different branches of the military. The flags selected are in honor of individuals serving in that branch who have connections to current players. Following the Foresters' parade on the field, the Lake Forest American Legion McKinlock Post 264 will present the colors for the playing of the National Anthem.

Between the first and second quarters, current and retired members of the military along with heroes from throughout Lake County and the Lake Forest campus community will be honored for their courage, sacrifice, and heroism.

In conjunction with the Alpha Phi Sorority, the football team will also collect donated items for their annual care package program. Last year alone, the team sent more than 50 care packages to United States Military personnel. For a list of items that can be donated for the care packages, please click here. The Alpha Phi Sorority will have a table set up at the east end of the field.

Admission will be free for those who have served or are currently serving with the presentation of a service ID at the gate. Kickoff will take place at 1:00 p.m. against Wisconsin Lutheran at Farwell Field.
