This Week in the Forest: May 7-13

The Forester track team will compete in its first Midwest Conference Outdoor Championships this weekend while the softball team is headed to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the fourth time in the last five years.

In the program's first year as a varsity sport since 1973, Forester distance runners rank among the top eight in the league in six events going into the conference championship meet. Freshman Darrian Lockett owns the MWC's fastest time of the season in the 800-meter run and classmate Yaneli Guajardo is among the leaders in both the 800 and 1500. Monmouth College, the men's champion at the league's indoor meet in February, will host the competition on Friday and Saturday. St. Norbert College was first at the indoor meet on the women's side.

The Lake Forest softball team is coming off a pair of losses at last weekend's MWC Tournament but was announced as one of the 20 at-large selections to the NCAA Tournament on Monday. The Foresters will take their 29-11 overall record to this weekend's Decorah, Iowa Regional and take on host Luther College (35-8) in the opening round on Friday. The two teams have already met this season with Lake Forest coming out on top of a 3-1 decision in Rochester, Minnesota, on March 4. College of St. Benedict (34-8) and fellow MWC member Cornell College (26-19) are the other two teams at the three-day, double-elimination event.
