The Foresters are contenders at this weekend's Midwest Conference Men's Golf Championships and Softball Tournament.
The Lake Forest men's golf team will travel to Rockford, Illinois, for the 2018 MWC Championship Tournament at Aldeen Golf Club. The three-day event will begin on Thursday and Forester senior Davis is the event's returning medalist. Lake Forest has been the league's runner-up each of the last two seasons but was picked to win the title this year by league coaches in February. The team is coming off a fourth-place finish at Sunday's Forester Spring Invite, the Foresters' third event in as many days.
The Forester softball team swept four doubleheaders last week to finish the regular season 29-9 overall and capture a conference title with a 17-1 record in league play. Lake Forest will host the four-team MWC Tournament this weekend and take on Cornell College (22-18, 10-8 MWC) Friday at noon in the first round of the two-day, double-elimination event. The other opening-round game features Illinois College (23-9, 15-3 MWC) and Grinnell College (23-10, 12-6 MWC). The Foresters swept Cornell last Thursday and Grinnell two days later and split a pair of extra-inning games at Illinois College on April 21. The winner of the tournament will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
Prior to the softball and men's golf teams conference tournament get started, the Forester women's golf team will finish its fourth year as a varsity sport with a dual match against visiting Benedictine University at nearby Lake Bluff Golf Club. Lake Forest posted a convincing victory over the Eagles in the fall and is 13-0 all-time in dual matches. The team also won its only other event this month, the Judson University Invitational, on April 11.
