The Forester tennis teams will compete in their respective Midwest Conference Tournaments in Madison, Wisconsin, this week.
Lake Forest's women's tennis team has a program record 22 victories against just two losses this season after defeating Concordia University Wisconsin and Carthage College 7-2 on Sunday. The Foresters finished second in the MWC standings with an 8-1 league record in the fall and will face third-place Cornell College (12-7, 7-2 MWC) in the conference tournament semifinals on Thursday. The winner will take on either St. Norbert College (15-13, 6-3 MWC) or league champion Grinnell College (17-4, 9-0 MWC) in the final that afternoon with an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament on the line.
The Forester men's tennis team is in a very similar situation, having completed the regular season with 7-2 triumphs over Lawrence University and St. Norbert College on Saturday. Lake Forest is 13-7 overall with victories in seven of eight league matches and will face third-place Lawrence (12-8, 6-2 MWC) again in Friday morning's MWC Tournament semifinals. First-place Grinnell College (20-4, 8-0 MWC) will take on fourth-place Monmouth College 6-12, 4-4 MWC) in the other semifinal and the winners will play that afternoon for a conference title and spot in the NCAA Tournament. The rest of the MWC will then join the four tournament teams in Madison for the MWC Individual Tournaments on Saturday and Sunday. Lake Forest players will be among the top four seeds in seven of the nine positional tournaments over the weekend.
The Lake Forest track team is in the midst of its first season as a varsity sport since 1973 and is coming off an appearance in the highly-competitive Don Church Twilight Meet at Wheaton College last Saturday. The team will be split this week with some racing at the 52nd Annual Hillsdale College Gina Relays on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday and others in Saturday's Beloit College Relays.
Due to several contests earlier in the spring being postponed, it will also be a busy week for two other spring sports at the College. The Forester men's golf team, which finished ninth at the 17-team Take Back the Night Challenge this past Saturday and Sunday, will play four events this week, beginning with Tuesday's Carthage College Spring Invitational at the Kenosha Country Club in Somers, Wisconsin. Lake Forest will also compete in Bryant and Stratton College's Bobcat Invitational (The Bog in Saukville, Wisconsin) on Friday and the Wisconsin Lutheran College Spring Invitational Washington County Golf Course in Hartford, Wisconsin) on Saturday before hosting Sunday's Forester Spring Invite at Thunderhawk Golf Club in Beach Park, Illinois.
The Lake Forest softball team split a pair of extra-inning games at Illinois College on Saturday before sweeping a doubleheader at Monmouth College on Sunday and is now 21-9 overall and atop the Midwest Conference standings at 9-1 in league play. The team will close out the regular season with four doubleheaders in five days, beginning Wednesday at Beloit College (5-27, 2-10 MWC). The Foresters will also host Cornell College (17-15, 5-5 MWC) on Thursday; take on Grinnell College (21-6, 10-2 MWC) in Janesville, Wisconsin, on Saturday; and celebrate Senior Day and Parents Day against visiting Knox College (5-21, 2-11 MWC) on Sunday.
