This Week in the Forest: April 9-15

Both Forester golf teams will host events and there will be four softball doubleheaders at home this week.

The softball team will get the week started with a pair of Midwest Conference gaes against visiting Lawrence University on Tuesday. The doubleheader was originally supposed to be played on Sunday but was canceled due to the weather. Lake Forest enters the week with a 13-7 overall record and with victories in both of the team's conference games. It will be the league opener for the Vikings, who are 6-10 overall. The Foresters have won the last six meetings between the two programs and own a 42-13 lead in the all-time series.

The softball team will be in action again on Wednesday against visiting Illinois Wesleyan University. The Titans, who are 15-6 on the year were ranked sixth in the nation in last Wednesday's poll, are 6-0 all-time against the Foresters.

The Lake Forest women's golf team will also compete on Wednesday at the Judson University Invitational. The Foresters took on Eastern Florida State University, a two-year school, in mid-March during their Spring Break trip to Florida and are playing in their first tournament since finishing third at the MWC Championships in early October. 

The women's golf team will also host a dual match against visiting Benedictine University on Friday. The event will be played at nearby Lake Bluff Golf Club. The teams also faced off on the same course in the fall with the Foresters prevailing by 54 strokes.

The Lake Forest track team will continue its first season since 1973 at the Benedictine Relays this Friday and Saturday. The Foresters are familiar with the venue, having finished at or near the lead in a number of distance events at last Saturday's Benedictine University Invitational.

Saturday and Sunday will be busy days for the Forester men's golf teams, which will compete in a pair of events. Lake Forest will travel north of the state line to Morningstar Golfers Club in Waukesha for the Wisconsin Lutheran Spring Invitational on Saturday. The Foresters were the runners-up at last year's event, which included 13 teams. The annual Forester Invitational will be played on Sunday. Lake Forest had a pair of teams in the event a year ago and placed fourth and eighth out of a dozen squads. The tournament will be played at nearby Lake Bluff Golf Club for the first time.

The softball team will resume MWC play with two more doubleheaders this weekend, taking on Cornell College (12-8, 0-0 MWC) on Saturday and Knox College (4-12, 0-2 MWC) on Sunday. The Foresters own a 5-7 all-time record against Cornell and have dropped their last four games to the Rams but are 36-4 with a 19-game winning streak against Knox.

A trip to Iowa is coming up for the Forester men's tennis team this weekend. Lake Forest edged out Monmouth College 5-4 before blanking Illinois College 9-0 on Sunday and is now 9-6 overall and 4-0 in the conference. The team will play at Grinnell College (14-4, 3-0 MWC) on Saturday and Cornell College (2-12, 0-3 MWC) on Sunday. The Foresters have won just five of 30 all-time meetings with Grinnell and are 4-5 all-time against the Rams, who they defeated 5-1 in the semimifinals of last year's MWC Championship Tournament.

The Lake Forest women's tennis team is coming off 7-2 victories over Marian University and North Park University on Sunday that raised the Foresters' program record victory total on the year to 20 (against just two losses). Lake Forest will travel to Augustana College (16-8) on Sunday to take on the hosts and Central College (11-3).
