The Lake Forest College will host three softball doubleheaders this week while the rest of the spring sports head out on the road.
The softball team won six of 10 games in Florida over Spring Break and is 9-5 on the season. The Foresters will play their home opener against the University of Chicago (7-5) on Monday, their first Midwest Conference games of the year against Ripon College (6-12) on Tuesday, and will make up last Saturday's games against the University of Wisconsin-Stout (10-2) on Saturday. Lake Forest swept Stout an Ripon a season ago and Chicago when they last played in 2016.
The Forester men's golf team fell in a match play against Eastern Florida State College in Orlando over Sring Break and will compete in its first stroke play event, Knox College's Prairie Fire Classic, this Friday and Saturday. Lake Forest placed fifth out of 19 teams at the same tournament last season and tied-for-fourth the year before.
Track returned to the College's slate of varsity programming this year and the Foresters will compete in their first outdoor meet at Washington University in St. Louis on Friday. Day one of the WashU Invitational is the "Distance Carnival" and includes several heats of the men's and women's 5K and 10K events.
Both tennis teams traveled to California for Spring Break and will be in action again this Saturday. The men, who also cruised to a 9-0 victory over Ripon College to open league play last Saturday, will take on host Illinois Institute of Technology (8-9) in the morning and Principia College (6-5) at noon. The Foresters are 5-6 overall this season.
The Lake Forest women's tennis team takes a 17-2 overall record in 2017-18 into Saturday night's contest at Elmhurst College. Elmhurst is 5-9 this year but defeated the Foresters when they last played in 2015.
