This Week in the Forest: Nov. 27-Dec. 3

This Week in the Forest: Nov. 27-Dec. 3

Lake Forest will host four basketball games and three hockey games in a 28-hour span this weekend.

The week will begin on the road for the Forester women's basketball team, which will travel to Benedictine University for a Monday night contest. Lake Forest opened Midwest Conference play with a 70-47 victory at Beloit College last Tuesday night to even its overall record on the year at 2-2. The Eagles are also at the .500 mark at 1-1 after beginning their Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference schedule with an 85-44 rout of visiting Marian University on Saturday. Benedictine won in overtime in Lake Forest a season ago but the Foresters still own a slight 11-10 edge in the all-time series between the two programs.

Lake Forest also leads the all-time series against Cornell College (11-6) and Grinnell College (33-8), the team's opponents on Friday and Saturday, respectively. The Rams and Pioneers have each won their last three meetings with the Foresters and are also 2-2 so far this season.

The Forester men's basketball team is 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference so far this year and is coming off an 82-77 triumph at the University of Chicago on Saturday. Lake Forest's upcoming match-ups with Cornell (2-1) and Grinnell (5-0) will precede the women's games on Friday and Saturday. The Rams swept the Foresters a year ago and hold an 18-13 edge in the all-time series. Lake Forest split with Grinnell in 2016-17 but trail the all-time series with the Pioneers 33-31.

The womens hockey team was off last weekend after blanking Finlandia University 14-0 and 7-0 at home November 17-18. The Foresters are now 5-3-0 overall and sit atop the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association standings with a 5-1-0 mark in NCHA play. The team will host Trine University (1-5-0, 1-5-0 NCHA), a new program, this Friday night and Saturday afternoon. Lake Forest will enter the series on a four-game winning streak while the Thunder have dropped their last four contests.

The Forester men's hockey team split a non-conference series at Saint Mary's University last weekend, taking Friday night's game 6-3 before falling 4-2 on Saturday. Lake Forest is now 6-3-0 overall and 3-1-0 in league play on the season and will travel to Milwaukee School of Engineering Friday night before hosting Concordia University Wisconsin 24 hours later. Both opponents are 6-1-1 overall and 3-1-0 in NCHA play and appear in this week's USCHO.com Division III poll. MSOE is currently 11th in the national rankings while Concordia Wisconsin sits just outside the top 15 leading the others receiving votes.

While the basketball and hockey teams are competing at home this weekend, the swimming and diving teams will be traveling back and forth over the state line for the Carthage Classic, a three-day meet that begins on Thursday. The Forester men are 1-1 in dual meets this season and are coming off a victory at Lawrence University's six-team Gene Davis Invitational two Saturdays ago. The women are also 1-1 and were fourth at Lawrence after winning the Monmouth Invite the previous weekend.

The Forester handball teams will also be in action this weekend at the Milwaukee Classic. Play at the Wisconsin Athletic Club in West Allis will begin on Friday and continue through Sunday. It will be the first official competition of the season for the Lake Forest women while the men were led by Senior Ricardo Palma's runner-up finish at the IHA Joe Ardito Contenders Tournament November 17-18.
