This Week in the Forest: Oct. 9-15

This Week in the Forest: Oct. 9-15

The Midwest Conference Women's Tennis Individual Tournaments will be held in Madison, Wisconsin, this weekend. In addition, the Forester cross country teams will compete in a high-level meet and the other fall sports are in the thick of their conference schedules.

The Lake Forest women's tennis team posted a 14-1 overall record and 8-1 mark in league play this fall. Individual Foresters will compete for MWC titles in the conference's positional tournaments on Saturday and Sunday, where Lake Forest players figure to be among the top few seeds at nearly every position in the lineup.

Cross country runners at the College have not competed since the Brissman-Lundeen Invitational on September 22. They will be back in action this Saturday at the UW-Oshkosh Kollege Town Sports Invitational, which hosted nearly 1,100 runners from more than 40 schools a year ago.

The only Forester sport competing before a busy Saturday is volleyball, which will host St. Norbert College Friday night. Lake Forest dropped a pair of matches in Iowa last weekend and is now 8-11 overall and 1-2 in MWC play on the year. St. Norbert enters the week at 6-13 overall and 3-1 in the league. The Foresters will also host Lawrence University (8-12, 3-1 MWC) on Saturday and will attempt to avenge losses to both opponents a season ago.

While the volleyball team is competing in the Sports and Recreation Center on Saturday, the women's soccer team will be taking on defending conference champion Knox College out on Farwell Field. The Foresters are 4-7-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the conference after Friday night's 2-2 tie at St. Norbert College. Knox enters the week 9-5-0 overall and 4-0-0 in the league. Lake Forest will also host Monmouth College (8-5-0, 3-2-0 MWC) on Sunday. The Foresters fell at Knox and prevailed at Monmouth in 2016.

The Lake Forest men's soccer team was edged out 2-1 at St. Norbert on Sunday and are now 7-5-1 overall and 4-1-0 in the league. The men will also take on Knox (9-2-3, 4-0-0 MWC) on Saturday and Monmouth (2-9-1, 1-2-1 MWC) on Sunday. The Foresters split with those teams a season ago, falling by a goal at Knox before winning by two at Monmouth.

After a 28-21 come-from-behind Homecoming victory over Knox College last week, the Lake Forest football team is 5-0 overall and 1-0 in MWC play. The team will look to extend its program record 10-game winning streak at Cornell College (2-3, 0-1 MWC) this Saturday. The Foresters have won their last two meetings with the Rams, including last year's 55-13 triumph.
