The men's golf team's Forester Spring Invite will close out a busy week that includes at least two events for all five of Lake Forest's spring sports.
Golf will also begin the week on Tuesday when the men's team competes at the Carthage College Spring Invitational and the women at the Elmhurst Bluejay Spring Invitational. The men, who are coming off a runner-up finish at this past Saturday's Wisconsin Lutheran Spring Invitational, were 10th out of 14 teams at Carthage last year. The Forester women will be competing for the first time in four weeks. They won last season's five-team event at Elmhurst.
The softball team will continue its pursuit of a fourth consecutive Midwest Conference title against visiting Beloit College on Wednesday. After prevailing 6-1 and 7-1 at Lawrence University on Saturday, Lake Forest is now 14-12 overall and 5-3 in league play on the year. The Foresters are 39-14 all-time against the Buccaneers, who split a doubleheader with Ripon College at home on Saturday and are 6-22 overall and 3-7 in the conference.
The golf teams will be in action again at 36-hole events on Friday and Saturday. The women will be playing at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Spring Fling, where they posted their best round last year. The men will be traveling south to Springfield, Illinois, to make their first appearance at the Illinois College Blueboy Invite.
The Forester women's tennis team will also play on Friday when they travel to Wheaton College. Lake Forest is coming off victories over Concordia University Chicago and North Park University two weekends ago and is now 10-8 on the year. Wheaton enters the week 18-2 and ranked 14th in the Central Region. After a day off, the Foresters will travel to Carthage College for two more matches against ranked opponents on Sunday. The first will be against the hosts, who enter the week 11-6, and the second versus the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, which is 19-3. La Crosse and Carthage are ranked 16th and 17th in the region, respectively.
The Lake Forest softball team will spend a lot of time in a bus this weekend. The team will play a doubleheader at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa, on Saturday and a twinbill at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, on Sunday. The Foresters are 5-4 all-time against Cornell, who enters the week 17-7 overall and 7-3 in the MWC. Knox has defeated Lake Forest just four times in 38 tries over the last 19 years and is 1-17 overall and 0-10 in the league this season.
The men's tennis team will close out its conference schedule with three matches in Wisconsin over the weekend, beginning Saturday evening at St. Norbert College. The Foresters enter the weekend 10-10 overall with victories in three of five MWC matches. The Green Knights are 7-7 overall and 2-4 in the league. Lake Forest will then travel to Lawrence University (10-8, 4-2 MWC) and Ripon College (0-12, 0-5) on Sunday.
The 2017 Forester Spring Invite will be played at Aldeen Golf Club in Rockford, Illinois, on Sunday. It will include approximately 75 players from 11 schools, including each of the six men's golf teams in the MWC. The tournament will also serve as a preview for the 2017 MWC Championships May 4-6, which will be played on the same course.
