This Week in Forester Athletics: Jan. 23-29

The final home swimming and diving meet for a dozen Forester seniors highlights this weekend's lighter-than-usual slate of events.

While neither hockey team will be in action this weekend, the Forester women (15-2-1, 9-1-1 NCHA), who moved up a spot to sixth in the nation in this week's USCHA.com poll, will play a rare mid-week game against visiting Concordia University Wisconsin 6-9-2, 2-7-2 NCHA) Tuesday night. Lake Forest will be looking for the season sweep of the Falcons defeating them 3-0 on Friday and 2-1 on Saturday in Mequon, Wisconsin. The Foresters now have a 21-3-2 advantage in the all-time series between the two programs and have taken the last seven meetings.

Both of the College's basketball teams won twice last week and will host Illinois College Wednesday night. The Forester women (5-10, 4-6 MWC) are coming off a 61-39 victory at Lawrence last Wednesday and a 61-55 triumph over visiting Monmouth College on Saturday. Illinois College is 9-6 overall and 6-4 in the league after dropping games to Knox College and Cornell College last week. Lake Forest owns a 29-14 edge in the all-time series but the Lady Blues won last year's only meeting and defeated the Foresters 60-54 in Jacksonville on December 7.

The Forester men's basketball team (9-6, 7-3 MWC) posted a 66-53 victory at Lawrence and a 76-66 win over Monmouth last week. Illinois College comes into Wednesday's game with an overall record of 5-10 and a conference mark of 2-8 after defeating Knox and Cornell in the last seven days. Lake Forest has eight wins in its last nine games, beginning with a 70-67 victory at Illinois College on December 7, and leads the all-time series with the Blueboys 37-21.

The basketball teams will travel to Knox College on Saturday. The Prairie Fire women (9-6, 6-4 MWC) pulled out a 63-56 victory in Lake Forest on January 14 but the Foresters still lead the all-time series 41-7. The Lake Forest men defeated Knox (1-14, 1-9 MWC) 73-59 and their 53 wins in 85 all-time meetings with the Prairie Fire are their most against any opponent.

The Foresters competed at the Illinois Handball Association Men's and Women's Singles Tournaments over the weekend. Leo Canales was the runner-up on the men's side while Kyra Vidas reached the semifinals in the women's competition. This Saturday Lake Forest will host the Women's Invitational Doubles, the second in a series of four invitational events.

After defeating Lawrence University but falling to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater last Saturday in the Sports and Recreation Center, the Forester men's and women's swimming and diving teams will host Illinois Institute of Technology this Saturday. Seniors Emily Bowens, Lauren Dalecky, Sean Flanigan, Sam Freedberg, Josh Georgeff, James Haney, Orion Huey, Travis Johnson, Ryan Keast, Chris Martinez, Virgil Thomas, and Lily Thorsen will be honored before the meet. The Lake Forest men defeated the host Scarlet Hawks 151-92 while the women fell 119-95 last year in a double-dual event. The Forester men are 18-13 and the women 13-3 all-time against Illinois Tech.

The Lake Forest men's tennis team will make its spring semester debut on Saturday at Wabash College, where the Foresters will take on Augustana College as well as the hosts. Last year Lake Forest hosted both teams on separate days, defeating Augustana 5-4 but falling 6-1 to Wabash.
