This Week in Forester Athletics: Jan. 9-15

Lake Forest College will be the site of a total of 10 home contests in six different sports this weekend.

The women's hockey team, ranked seventh in the nation and coming off 4-0 and 5-0 victories at Saint Mary's University last weekend, will start things off against visiting College of St. Scholastica late Friday afternoon and the teams will face off again on Saturday. The Foresters are 12-2-0 overall and 6-1-0 so far this season in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play. The Saints will enter the weekend 6-5-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the league. A pair of 4-3 victories earlier this season in Duluth, Minnesota, gives Lake Forest a 14-3-5 advantage in the all-time series between the two programs.

The basketball teams will also be in action at home Friday evening trying to avenge losses to Grinnell College earlier in the season and looking to catch the Pioneers in the Midwest Conference standings. The Forester women (3-8, 2-4 MWC) are coming off a loss to Ripon College at home last Saturday. They are 33-7 all-time against Grinnell (5-6, 3-3 MWC) but have dropped the last three match-ups. The Lake Forest men (5-6, 3-3 MWC) were also defeated by Ripon on Saturday. They split their games with the Pioneers (7-4, 4-2 MWC) in 2015-16 and trail slightly in the all-time series 33-30.

The Forester men's hockey team is coming off a split with Milwaukee School of Engineering last weekend with both teams winning 3-2 on the other's home ice. Lake Forest (9-6-0, 5-5-0 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association) will host Adrian College (10-3-2, 9-1-0 NCHA), the eighth-ranked team in the country, Friday and Saturday night.

The handball courts in the Lake Forest College Sports and Recreation Center will be in use on Saturday when the Foresters host a Men's Invitational Singles event. It will begin a series of four opportunities for competition at the College, which also includes women's doubles on January 28, women's singles on February 11, and men's doubles on February 18.

The Forester swimmers are the only athletes from the College traveling this weekend. They will compete in the annual Illinois-Michigan Quadrangular at Wheaton College on Saturday. While the swimmers are at Wheaton, the diving portion of the meet will be conducted in the Lake Forest College pool.

The Lake Forest basketball teams will complete their busy weekend by hosting Knox College on Saturday. The Prairie Fire women are 6-5 overall and tied with Grinnell at 3-3 in conference play. The men will enter the weekend 1-10 overall and 1-5 in the league. The Forester women split the season series with Knox last year and are 41-6 all-time against the Prairie Fire. The men won both games in 2015-16 and have taken 52 of 84 meetings all-time.
