This Week in Forester Athletics: September 19-25

Four Midwest Conference soccer games here at home this weekend highlight Forester action for the week.

The soccer teams will host the Rams of Cornell College on Saturday on the grass field behind Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse with the men playing at 1:00p.m. and the women at 3:30 p.m. The Forester men began the MWC portion of its schedule with a 2-1 triumph at Beloit College on Sunday and is 3-4-0 overall on the year. The women also started league play on Sunday but fell 2-1 in overtime to visiting St. Norbert College. The team enters the week 3-3-0 but will also play at undefeated (6-0-0) Elmhurst College Wednesday night at 7:00. Cornell's men begin the week 2-2-2 and the women 2-4-0. The Lake Forest men won 4-0 and the women 7-0 at Cornell last season.

The Forester soccer teams will be back on Farwell Field on Sunday against Grinnell College. The Pioneer men are 4-3-0 and the women 2-4-1 on the year. Lake Forest doubled up Grinnell 2-1 in the men's game and 4-2 in the women's in 2015.

The Lake Forest volleyball team will actually kick off the week at Concordia University Wisconsin Tuesday night. The Foresters are 4-7 after defeating North Central College in three games and falling in five to Benedictine University at home Friday night. Concordia Wisconsin took last year's meeting in three sets and enters Tuesday night's 7:30 contest 8-3.

The Forester volleyball team will also play a non-conference match at Illinois Institute of Technology Friday night at 7:30. The Scarlet Hawks are 5-6 so far in 2016. Lake Forest took last year's meeting in three sets.

Friday's Forester action also includes the cross country teams competing in Augustana College's Brissman-Lundeen Invitational at Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island, Illinois. The women's 6K will begin at 3:00 with the men's 8K to follow at 5:15. The Lake Forest women placed sixth out of 12 teams and the men 11th out of 14 at last Saturday's Gil Dodds Invitational, hosted by Wheaton College. The Foresters placed 21st in the women's race and 20th in the men's at last year's meet, which included 50 teams.

The women's golf team won a pair of triangulars last weekend, defeating Edgewood College and Marian University on Saturday and Edgewood and Concordia University Wisconsin on Sunday. The Foresters will compete in the University of Wisconsin Whitewater Fall Classic at Delbrook Golf Course in Delavan, Wisconsin, this weekend with Friday's opening round beginning at 1:00 p.m. and Saturday's round two at 9:00 in the morning.

The Lake Forest College men's tennis team will play in its only event of the fall this weekend. The Foresters will travel to Kalamazoo, Michigan, for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Tournament. Play will begin on Friday and continue through the weekend with the finals scheduled for Monday.

The Forester football team is 3-0 overall this season and 1-0 in conference play after defeating host Cornell College 55-13 last Saturday. Lake Forest is set to host Monmouth College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in a match-up of the only undefeated teams in the league. The Fighting Scots took the 2015 meeting 38-7. It will be Benny Watters Community Day and the Foresters will be wearing pink and raising funds for the American Cancer Society as part of the MWC's Playing for a Cure initiative.

The Lake Forest men's golf team is coming off a 16th-place finish at last weekend's 32-team Midwest Region Fall Classic and will take on Wisconsin Lutheran College in a match play event on Saturday at Bull Valley Golf Club in Woodstock, Illinois. Start time is 10:00 a.m. The Foresters will also be part of the field at the Wisconsin Lutheran Fall Invitational on Sunday and Monday. The event will be held at the Washington County Golf Course in Hartford, Wisconsin.

The Forester women's tennis team took two of three league matches on its trip to Wisconsin last weekend, winning 9-0 at Ripon College, falling 6-3 at St. Norbert College, and prevailing 5-4 at Lawrence University. Lake Forest is now 5-3 overall and 3-3 in the conference and will host 2-3 Elmhurst College Sunday afternoon at 1:00. The Foresters defeated the Bluejays 5-4 in the spring.
