Senior Swimmers Honored

As the College recognized and celebrated the class of 2022 last week, two Forester swimmers were honored with annual athletic awards during the Senior Honors Convocation.

Kylie Morgan ’22 was honored with the Nicholas J. Wasylik Senior Athletic Award. The award was created and endowed in 1983 by Seymour H. Knox IV, a Lake Forest College graduate of the Class of 1979. The award is presented to the senior athlete who best emulates the positive, outgoing attitude as well as the drive and determination of Nicholas J. Wasylik, former athletic director at Lake Forest. The recipient is chosen by the Director of Athletics, in consultation with the members of the Athletic Department.

A team captain and accomplished competitor, Kylie is a 3-time conference champion and a member of our school record setting 200 Freestyle Relay. She is a multi-time conference championship finalist and was a key contributor to the women’s team conference championship title in 2020.

Kylie is a Dean’s List Scholar and Richter Scholar program participant as a Biology and Environmental Studies double major. She’s been recognized as an MWC Academic All-Conference every year eligible. She has contributed to the College’s science program as a Teaching Assistant in various Biology classes, as Research Assistant in Professor Schwalbe’s Biology lab, and presenter at the Glassman Symposium.

In four years, Kylie contributed to and led campus organizations. She has assisted the College’s recruitment efforts as an Admissions Ambassador, Forester Guide, and SAP Contactor. She is the president of Tri Beta Biological Honor Society, Athletic Council SAAC Representative, and a member of Biology Department Student Advisory Committee and LEAP Environmental Protection Club.

Graeme Witte ’22 was also recognized during the convocation. He received the annual Senior Scholar-Athlete Award. This award is presented to an individual Forester in each graduating class who posts the highest grade point average over the previous three semesters. It was previously called the Letterman’s Award. Graeme has held a perfect 4.0 GPA since his freshman year.

Graeme served as captain for his senior year and is a seven-time Conference champion, including three individual Conference titles in the 200-Freestyle in 2019, 2020, and 2022. He helped lead the men’s team to a second place overall finish his senior year.

Graeme is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa National Honors Society, as well as the Omicron Delta Kappa (Leadership), Chi Alpha Sigma (College Athlete), and Tri-Beta (Biology) Honors Societies. He was the Midwest Conference Elite 20 award winner his sophomore and senior years and was recognized as an MWC Academic All-Conference each year eligible. He is a Dean’s List Scholar and participated in the Richter Scholar program his freshman year.

As a biology major, Graeme was active participant in the department. He worked in the Kirk Lab as a research assistant and contributed as a chemistry assistant. He’s also worked with various other campus organizations, including Future Health Professionals (FHP), Academic Honesty Judicial Board, New Student Orientation Leader, and Alpha Phi Omega Co-Ed Service Fraternity.

Graeme will take a gap year after graduation to work as a research assistant as he prepares for the MCAT and, ultimately, medical school.
