Celebrating DIII Week

Celebrating DIII Week

Beginning in 2010, NCAA Division III Week is an opportunity for all student-athletes, coaches, administrators, and colleges and universities in general to celebrate the impact of athletics on their campuses and in their communities.

As stated on NCAA.org: “The initiative has been guided by a strategic-positioning platform, describing Division III as a place where student-athletes can “follow your passions and develop your potential,” within an approach that combines rigorous academics, competitive sports and an opportunity to pursue other interests.”

This year’s DIII Week ran from April 5 through April 11, 2021.

As a way to mark the occasion, the Lake Forest Student Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) and Athletic Council (AC) took to social media to highlight all the amazing achievements of Forester student-athletes on campus.

The groups created five videos to showcase the multiple facets of a Forester student-athlete’s life: academics, athletics, on-campus involvement, health and wellness, and leadership. Athletes spoke directly to their successes—both on and off the field—and shared all the benefits they receive from being a member of a Division III institution. The young men and women in the videos demonstrated the ability to do more than just their sport at Lake Forest. (You can view all of the videos on our Instagram account.)

Also, as an additional part of the annual DIII Week initiatives, SAAC and AC representatives took a moment to send virtual cards to a faculty/staff member on campus who has impacted their experience, both thanking them for their work and sharing the meaning of DIII Week.

Division III Week was definitely a success. As it is an annual event, we look forward to celebrating again next April!
