Lake Forest Hosts Fourth Annual Triptow Memorial Golf Tournament

The Lake Forest College Athletic Department hosted the fourth annual Triptow Memorial Golf Tournament on Sunday, October 13, at White Deer Run Golf Course in nearby Vernon Hills.

The tournament was created in honor of legendary coach Dick Triptow, who served the College for 14 years and spent time as the head coach of the basketball (1959-72), soccer (1964-72), baseball (1959-72), and golf (1967-70) programs. He was inducted into the Lake Forest College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000 and remained a close friend of Forester Athletics throughout the rest of his life.

Each year, Lake Forest College alumni, family, and friends of Coach Triptow, in addition to the men’s and women’s golf programs, come together at the Triptow Memorial Golf Tournament in remembrance of him. Helen Triptow, his wife, even joined in on the golfing this year, despite the chilly fall weather!

Guests were also joined by two alumni from the College’s original golf program, which was discontinued in 1970 and later returned as a varsity sport in 2014. Al Bathrick ’60 and Mark Mayeau ’52 participated in this year’s tournament and spent time meeting the current men’s and women’s players and coaches and providing a few interesting and informative stories about the original team. Their continued involvement, as well as the support from all of the Forester golf alumni, family, and friends, truly enhances the College’s Tradition of Excellence, and plays a huge roll in the success of this event and the Forester golf programs.
