On Thursday, April 4, Lake Forest College President Steve Schutt and Director of Athletics Jackie Slaats hosted a dinner at Glen Rowan House to recognize this year’s “A-Team” honorees. The A-Team is comprised of student-athletes who received straight A’s in either the 2018 spring or fall semester.
A record-breaking 88 student-athletes were invited, compared to last year’s 82 honorees. For the third straight year, men’s hockey led the dinner with an impressive 17 attendees, which makes up 57% of the team.
Also posting high numbers were men's soccer with ten attendees, and men's swimming & diving and football with eight each.
When looking at the breakdown in majors, 22 students held a major in finance while nine majored in business. Biology and economics followed with seven. In addition, 21 students held a double major.
President Schutt made remarks before dinner, congratulating the students on their excellence in the classroom and acknowledging the exciting trend that the number of A-Team honorees continues to rise each year. He also acknowledged 44 student-athletes that were repeat dinner attendees.
When reflecting on the dinner, Director of Athletics and Senior Advisor to the President Jackie Slaats noted that, "we continue to set records in academic performance, and that, combined with our growing success in competition, community engagement, and career preparation, makes me proud."
It was also terrific to have our new Dean of Faculty, Davis Schneiderman, as part of this special celebration held by the athletic department each year.
