Forester Basketball Makes National Noise in Coaches vs. Cancer 3-Point Challenge

The Forester women’s basketball team received national recognition with a second place finish among Division III schools and a ninth place finish among all Division I, II, and III schools in this year’s Coaches vs. Cancer 3-Point Challenge. In this challenge, basketball teams from all three divisions partnered with the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and the American Cancer Society (ACS) to raise money in the fight against cancer. Supporters of the cause pledged an amount for every 3-point shot made during both home and away games from January 27 through February 17.

Through the generous support of pledgers and donors during this timeframe and from the outstanding performance of the women’s team, the program raised $2,333. The Foresters hit 44 shots from 3-point range over the course of seven games. The $2,333 raised ranked Lake Forest College in the top 10 in the nation of the Coaches vs. Cancer Leaderboard and second among all Division III schools, just behind Willamette.

The University of Florida led the standings with $67,733 raised. The University of Los Angeles (UCLA) followed in second place with $19,769, the University of North Carolina in third with $13,998, Penn State University took fourth with $12,232, and then Villanova University was fifth at $5,021. Willamette University (women’s team) finished sixth with $4,546, the University of Illinois was seventh with $3,556, the University of Pennsylvania (women’s team) was eighth at $3,265, and finishing in 10th at $2,169 behind Lake Forest College was Old Dominion University.

Although not listed on the Leaderboard, the Forester men’s basketball team raised an impressive $1,162, which was $969 more than last year. The team hit 53 shots from 3-point range during the 3-week time period. Combined both the men’s and women’s basketball teams raised $3,495.
